What to visit in Herculaneum?
Herculaneum is one of the most famous archaeological destinations in the world and an unmissable appointment for holidaymakers in Naples. Now a UNESCO world heritage site, Herculaneum is well preserved underneath the volcanic ash caused by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D., and you will be able to walk through the historical streets and soak up the atmosphere of the ancient-Roman city.
Getting to Herculaneum
In just 15 minutes, guests at Hotel Magri's can reach Herculaneum and visit one of the most acclaimed archaeological sites in the world. All they need to do is take the Circumvesuviana train (Naples-Sorrento line) which is only a short 5-minute walk from the hotel (Gianturco station). Alternatively, they can go by car because it is a 15-minute drive from the hotel along the A3 (Herculaneum exit).
The archaeological site
Herculaneum boasts 5 hectares of archaeological remains which are extraordinarily well preserved thanks to a surge of pyroclastic material which formed a solid blanket at an average height of about 20 metres when Vesuvius erupted.
Everything has been perfectly preserved, allowing you to stroll through the ancient streets of Herculaneum, entering the private homes, thermal baths and storefronts and imagining what it must have been like all those years ago.

from 1/11 to 31/03 every day between 8.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m.
from 1/04 to 31/10 every day between 8.30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Admission is free of charge on the first Sunday of each month.

The MAV (the Virtual Archaeological Museum of Herculaneum) is an extraordinary place where the wonders of technology take us on a journey back to ancient Roman times. Seventy multimedia installations with interfaces and holograms provide visitors with an unforgettable sensorial experience of what it must have been like in Pompeii, Herculaneum, Baiae, Stabiae and Capri before Vesuvius erupted in 79 A.D.
